3. The Overall Quality Rating Calculation (Negotiating Entity)

1.       Overview of Quality Rating
(back to Table of Contents)

Quality Ratings are generated for each supplier site. Quality Ratings are calculated for every month. The monthly Quality Ratings are combined using a 6 month weighted average formula to produce an overall weighted average Quality Rating figure which is used by Visteon for business decisions. On the third working day of a new month, the Quality Rating for the preceding month is calculated for the first time and the Quality ratings for the 12 months displayed are re-computed.

The Quality Rating has a maximum of 100 points. Points are awarded for the supplier performance (PPM, Quality Rejects) and the Supplier's Quality system (example ISO/TS 16949). Full details are given below.

Suppliers need to take actions to maximise their Quality Rating score. Visteon uses a G-Y-R system for Quality Rating (weighted average figure) as follows:-

Green above 70 points

Yellow 50 to 69 points

Red 49 points and below

2.        Quality Rating Components
(back to Table of Contents)

2.1        Quality Rating Components - Overview
(back to Table of Contents)

The Quality Rating is composed of the following categories and points distribution:-

2.2        PPM Performance - 25 Points
(back to Table of Contents)

The PPM performance will be based on current month's performance:

PPM Range Points Awarded
0 PPM 25 points
1 to 25 PPM 20 points
26 to 60 PPM 15 points
61 to 120 PPM 10 points
121 to 250 PPM 5 points
above 250 PPM 0 points

2.3        Quality Reject (QR) Performance - 25 points
(back to Table of Contents)

QR performance will be based on current month's instances

2.3.1 Types of Quality Rejects

2.3.2 Quality Reject: Severity Code Point Deductions
(back to Table of Contents)

2.3.3 Formula for Quality Reject points calculated monthly:
(back to Table of Contents)

Points calculation is based upon PPM Quality Rejects
25 points - [(# H x 15 ) + (# M x 10 ) + (# L x 5 ) + (# undefined x 5 )] ;   Result = > 0

'# H' is the count of High severity QRs etc. The count is by QR reference numbers, a Quality Reject with multiple part numbers counts as one.

2.4        Quality System Status - 30 points
(back to Table of Contents)

Points are assigned based on the Quality System status at the supplier site. Point values (up to a maximum of 30) are illustrated in the following table:

The Quality System that receives the most points is displayed in the expanded Monthly Quality Rating section. If two or more Quality Systems are awarded the same number of point, or no points, the system with the later date is displayed

Quality system points are awarded beginning the month after the date of the Quality System; example, supplier achieve ISO/TS16949:2002 with Visteon Customer Specific Requirements on 21st February 2007, the supplier will receive 30 points from March 2007 onwards, after the March 2007 data run

The Visteon Customer Specific Requirements for use with ISO / TS16949:2002 are available from the Visteon Supplier Portal (VSP).

2.5        Significant Quality Event(SQE) - 10 points
(back to Table of Contents)

If a supplier has 0 SQE's, they get the full 10 points.

Standard SQE minus 10 points, 3 month duration

Major SQE minus 50 points, 6 month duration

The Quality Rating points deduction will start in the next month after the SQE entry. Example, a Standard SQE is entered on 20th April, the 10 points deduction to the Quality Rating will occur in the months of May, June and July.

If a supplier has one or more SQEs they lose points for the most severe SQE.

SQE Examples

Major SQE
  • Violation of Trust which includes but is not limited to the following:
    • Changing manufacturing site location without notification via the SCR process.
    • Changing sub-suppliers without notification via the SCR process.
    • False or unverifiable information being input into Scorecard / Report Card.
    • False or unverifiable information being submitted with a PPAP submission
Standard SQE
  • Caused a stop shipment or production stoppage at a Visteon
  • Manufacturing Facility.
  • Caused a pass thru rejection at a Visteon Customer.
  • Caused a recall or campaign.
  • Unacceptable PPAP submission(s) is received following appropriate instruction.

2.6        PPAP Level - 5 points
(back to Table of Contents)

2.7        PSW Slippage - 5 points
(back to Table of Contents)

0 slippages in month 5 Points

1 or more slippage in month 0 Points

2.8        Process Capability - 0 points
(back to Table of Contents)

Process Capability functionality in Quality Rating will be introduced to Report Card at a later date.

2.9        Quality Rating Weighted Average
(back to Table of Contents)

A 6 month weighted average is used to compute an overall Quality Rating figure. This figure is used by Visteon for business decisions. The rules for calculating the Weighted Average Quality Rating are as follows:

The last calculated Monthly Quality rating is excluded from the weighted average as this month's data is deemed to be immature. The weighted average is over six months with weights of 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 in reverse order from latest mature data month. The summed total is divided by 21 to achieve the Six Months Weighted Rolling Average Quality Rating. Details of the calculation are accessible form the summary screen.

If a supplier is new or has been supplying for less than 6 months or the number of ratings received is below 6 months then the six month rolling weighted quality rating will be calculated ONLY for the months that the rating is available. The weight for the months available is assigned in reverse order from the current month.

(e.g. If for August, the ratings are available for Jul, Jun, Apr, Mar, Feb, Jan then the weight for the months will be 6, 5, 0, 3, 2, 1. Note here that the month May is missing and is therefore assigned a "0").
